Composer, born in London, England, UK. He studied in Glasgow, in 1936 became professor of composition at the Scottish National Academy of Music, and in 1945 was appointed master of music at St Andrews University. His early compositions include a string quartet, and the Dirge for Cuthullin for chorus and orchestra in 1935. His Symphony in C appeared in 1945, and he wrote the music for Tyrone Guthries's acclaimed production of Ane Satyre of the Thrie Estaitis in 1948.
