Jean de Smetsky is the pseudonym of Belgian composer Jean de Smet. Born in 1885 in Ghent, Belgium, the composer is most known for his music written for Belgian troops during World War I. He was orchestra leader at the opera house in Dijon and lived briefly in the United States. The most famous work in his career was the March of the Spanish Soldiery, first published in 1927. De Smetsky died in 1954 in Gentbrugge, Belgium.
