  Kristen Shiner McGuire is an Assistant Professor in Performance Practice and Coordinator of Percussion Studies at Nazareth College of Rochester, where she has taught since 1984. In 1998 she received the Excellence In Undergraduate Teaching Award.  The Nazareth College Percussion Ensemble is known for their eclectic and entertaining performances on campus and at State and Regional Conferences. 

  Kristen is know nationally as a multifaceted performer and composer. Her works include Declaration, Song and Dance for solo timpani (Ludwig Masters Publications), Colors of Earth and Sea for solo marimba (Media Press); Juniper for solo marimba (Kendor); Celestial Welcome for percussion ensemble (Alfred Publishing), written for and performed by the NCR Percussion Ensemble at College President Daan Braveman's inauguration in 2005.

  Kristen is a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the RPO Marimba Band, and  is the drummer and lead vocalist for the Barry Tee Jazz Trio. She has performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the Ocho Rios Jazz Festival, the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival and at various venues in St. Thomas, among others.  Her recordings include those with the Maelstrom Percussion Ensemble, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Jon Seiger and The All Stars, The Pop Tarts, Dave McGrath, Lisa Bigwood, and most recently on her first solo jazz album, Kristen Sings and Plays and Rings.

  Kristen has served on the Board of Directors for the international Percussive Arts Society; as Secretary  for the Executive Council; and as New York Chapter President for PAS. She has published articles in Percussive Notes, The Instrumentalist, and School Music News, and has her own column in the latter. She is the Percussion Ensemble Editor for the NYSSMA Manual.
