About A Scottish Treat (arr. Hall)
This woodwind quintet has been created to fill the need for literature for this standard ensemble of mixed woodwind instruments (including the French Horn) at a level of difficulty that is realistic for less experienced performers. This particular quintet also gives opportunity to the performers to experience two of the beautiful and exciting songs that we have inherited from Scotland - "Barbara Allen" and "Scotland the Brave." The firs song is lyrical and the text is about infatuation and unrequited love, and the second in contrast is about military might and valor. Grace notes have been supplied to help with a more realistic imitation of bagpipes. Ranges of all instruments are very practical for this level, and an optional bass clarinet part is included to replace the bassoon if necessary.
