About Grandfather's Clock (arr. Hall)
This ensemble is unusual in that brass quartets do not usually include a tuba. While it was written especially for 2 trumpets, trombone and tuba there are several other options for instrumentation - the 2nd trumpet part can be played by horn, and the tuba part by a 2nd trombone or baritone player. Parts are supplied for these options. After a 4 measure introduction of clock ticks, the theme is simply stated, and then it is followed by a Viennese waltz variation with the tuba playing the melody, and of course, the clock finally slows down and stops. An excellent choice for concert or contest.
